Tandem - Week 4 Musings

The jar now contains 61 beads (18 silver for Act 1, 43 moonstone for Act 2) and 9 diamonds.

My toxic trait, I've realized, is my ability to do anything but write when it comes to working on this book. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE writing and I've LOVED the drafting process of my initial manuscript. At the same time, it's so easy to reach for the many indie author tasks whenever I get intimidated by the scene. There's positives and negatives to it. As a positive, I designed some business cards I really like (pictured), even if I had to re-order them because the font was too small. Better I found out now, rather than later, right? On the negative side, I do feel like my writing progress over the last week was just a bit more sluggish than before.

Also from this week: lots of good things! I got some flowers from my dad (awwww), participated in my first pitch event on Bluesky (yay!), and broke the 100 follower mark on both TikTok and Bluesky. It's encouraging to see people engaging with me on social media, especially when they express interest in Tandem. Even if nobody ever read it, I'd still write it, because the story means a lot to me... but it sure is nice to get support from fellow writers. :)

Per our weekly tradition, I'll give you a Tandem teaser. If you follow my Bluesky, you already know, but I've finally got some character art to reveal! The wonderful Anita Efosa did beautiful art of Vic, one of my leads. The other female lead's art is in the works now. I'll make a separate post here once I've done the official reveal for social media.

Next week, I'll be getting through the darkest night for my characters. See you on the other side!

With love,

Aven
